Bohemian Owl Pyrography


My hubby bought me some wood blanks for x~mas. Decided to get to work!
This piece is based off of a popular owl design I found online. I tweaked it slightly and went to work!
I'm still quite an amateur in this department, but I think it's coming along.
Pyrography and Water colored stain. Sealed with a light coat of Coconut oil.

Mixed Fruit Custard


I bought a juicer this weekend. I'm hoping it will help me get healthier and lose some weight! Anyways,...
After making a batch of juice I was left with a TON of Fruit and Veggie pulp. I luckily emptied the collection chamber between the two. The veggie pulp I used to make a stock with. Hopefully it turned out well, I haven't tried it yet.

So what to do with the fruit pulp?

I decided to make a yummy desert! The rest... I think I'll turn into popsicles.
My fruit pulp consists of Granny Smith apples, Pears, Blueberries, Raspberries, Orange, & Blood Oranges.

I also had some Cardamom Sugar cookies laying about that needed used up.
What you'll need:
Crust:
Apx 2 c Crushed Sugar cookies (or graham crackers)
2 Tbs Butter
Top:
Cust mix
Sliced almonds
Brown Sugar
Custard:
2 cups fruit pulp
3 eggs
2/3 c Sugar
1/4 tsp Salt
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Ginger
1/4 c Flour
1 c Half&Half
Preheat oven to 400.
Melt butter and mix with crushed cookies in pie pan. Separate out about 1 c and set aside. Evenly distribute the rest of the crust mix in the bottom of pan.
In a large bowl, mix all custard ingredients together. Why dirty more dishes and mix things separate and then combine them? Plus, I'm lazy! Just make sure it's all mixed together well.
Pour mix into pie pan evenly. Take the crust mix you set aside and sprinkle it on top. Then add the almonds and brown sugar. This part is to your taste.



Bake for 40 min to 1 hr, or until center is done. To test doneness, stick a sharp knife in the middle, if it comes out clean, it's done!



Let cool fully before serving. You may even prefer to chill before serving.
